The skateboard community in Montreal is mobilizing.
Celebrating the skateboarding International Day at “Place de la Paix” (Peace Park) and the announcement of the creation of the skateboard association of Montreal (ASM).
Montreal, June 10, 2015 – Community representatives ‘skateboard’ in Montreal wish to enjoy the 8th edition of the international day of ‘skateboard’ (Go Skateboarding Day) to thank the Ville-Marie, in particular the Mayor Denis Coderre, for the legalization of the practice of ‘skateboard’ instead of Peace (between 10h and 22h all year).
We also wish to express our gratitude to the City of Montreal for having recently legalized the practice of ‘skateboard’ on bike paths and thus recognize the ‘skateboard’ as a means of active transportation. This gesture confirms the legitimacy of the practice of ‘skateboard’ as a positive contribution to the Montreal community.
The international day of ‘skateboard’ (Go ‘Skateboarding’ Day) will be held June 21, 2015 in Montreal with a parade of ‘skateboarders’ starting at 14h at the corner of Ontario and Berri streets, followed by a descent in the streets until instead of peace. On site, music and BBQ will be at the rendezvous for the public and ‘skateboarders’. Taking advantage of this event, we announce today the creation of the Association of Skateboard Montreal (ASM).
ASM is a nonprofit membership organization of ‘skateboarders’ enthusiasts whose mandate;
• encourage the creation of spaces for the practice of ‘skateboard’.
• to act as a consultant in the development and design of these spaces.
• to share and spread the culture of ‘skateboard’, its artistic component and thus break the stigma surrounding it.
• to bridge with public bodies and act as the main contact with them, representing the community of ‘skateboard’.
“We want to promote the interests of skateboarders as active members of the community with a positive contribution to city life, culture and sport of Greater Montreal. We want to know the culture of skateboarding, both artistic and proactive, the highlight and combat prejudice. “Said David Bouthillier on behalf of ASM.
